Privacy Policy

1. Overview
TimeCap exists to keep your family’s most personal stories, so privacy is not a compliance page for us; it is the product. This Policy explains what information Timecap LLC (“TimeCap,” “we,” “us”) collects when you use the TimeCap website and services at www.timecap.tech (the “Service”), how we use it, who can see it, and the choices and rights you have.
Three commitments up front: we never sell your personal information; your Stories are private by default and only become visible to others when you choose; and you can access or delete your data at any time (see Sections 9 and 10).
2. Information we collect
Information you give us. When you create an account we collect your name, email address, password, and optionally a profile photo, bio, and language preference. When you use the Service you provide the content of your Stories (videos, photos, audio, titles, captions, and descriptions), plus family member entries you create (names, relations, optional photos) and messages you send us (for example through the contact form or support email).
Information collected automatically. Like most web services, we receive technical data when you use the Service: IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, actions taken (such as uploads completing or a Story being published), timestamps, and approximate region derived from your IP address. We also record storage usage against your plan.
Payment information. When paid subscriptions are processed, payment card details are collected and processed by our payment processor, not stored on our servers; we receive only limited information such as the plan purchased, transaction status, and the last digits of the card.
3. How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
- provide the Service: store your media, assemble and play your Stories, and deliver them to the people you choose;
- operate your account: authentication, plan limits, storage accounting, and notifications you’ve enabled (like “your video is ready”);
- process payments and manage subscriptions and trials;
- respond to support requests and privacy requests;
- understand how the Service is used in aggregate so we can improve it;
- keep the Service safe by preventing abuse, enforcing our Terms, and responding to reports; and
- comply with legal obligations.
We do not use the content of your Stories for advertising, and we do not sell it or your personal information to anyone.
4. Your Stories: who can see what
Visibility is always your choice, per Story, and every Story starts private: visible only to you.
- Private: only you can view the Story. Its link shows others a private-story screen.
- Shared: anyone who has the Story’s unique link can view it, and TimeCap members you send it to inside the app can find it in their account. It does not appear on your profile or in Discover.
- Public: the Story is additionally shown on your public profile and may appear in the Discover feed.
A Story’s unique link is unguessable but not password-protected: treat a shared link like a house key, and share it only with people you trust. You can change a Story’s visibility, or make it private again, at any time.
5. When we share information
We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it with third parties for their own advertising. We share information only:
- With service providers who process it on our behalf under contract (cloud hosting and media storage, media transcoding, payment processing, email delivery, and analytics), and only as needed to run the Service;
- With people you choose: the viewers of Stories you set to shared or public, per Section 4;
- For legal reasons: when required by law, subpoena, or legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users, the public, or TimeCap; and
- In a business transfer: if Timecap LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, in which case this Policy would continue to apply and we would notify you of any change in control.
6. Cookies and analytics
We use cookies and similar technologies that are necessary for the Service to work: keeping you signed in, remembering preferences, and protecting your account. We also use privacy-respecting product analytics to understand, in aggregate, how the Service is used (for example, which features are most helpful and where people get stuck). We do not use third-party advertising cookies and do not run cross-site behavioral advertising.
Most browsers let you control or delete cookies in settings. Blocking essential cookies may prevent parts of the Service (like signing in) from working.
7. Data retention
We keep your account information and content for as long as your account is active, because keeping your Stories available is the point of the Service. If you delete a Story or individual media, it is removed from the Service promptly and purged from backups in the ordinary course. If you delete your account, your personal information and content are permanently deleted after a short recovery window, except where we must retain limited records to comply with law, resolve disputes, or enforce agreements.
8. Security
We protect your information with industry-standard measures: encryption in transit, access controls that make private content readable only through your account, unguessable Story links, and least-privilege access for our own team. No online service can promise perfect security, so we also encourage you to use a strong, unique password. If we learn of a breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you as required by law.
9. Your choices and rights
Regardless of where you live, you can:
- view and update your profile information in account settings;
- control each Story’s visibility at any time (Section 4);
- delete individual media, Stories, or your entire account;
- adjust which notifications you receive; and
- request a copy of your data or ask questions about this Policy by emailing support@timecap.tech.
10. Your California privacy rights (CCPA/CPRA)
Timecap LLC is a California company, and California residents have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended (CCPA/CPRA):
- Right to know / access: request the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, and receive a portable copy;
- Right to delete: request deletion of your personal information, subject to legal exceptions;
- Right to correct: request correction of inaccurate personal information;
- Right to opt out of sale or sharing: we do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of; and
- Right to non-discrimination: we will never treat you differently for exercising your rights.
To exercise any of these rights, including access and deletion requests, email support@timecap.tech from the address on your account (or with enough information for us to verify it’s you). You may also use an authorized agent. We respond within the timelines the law requires, generally 45 days.
11. Children's privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Stories often feature family members of all ages, including children, uploaded by an adult account holder; the account holder is responsible for having permission to share that content (see our Terms). If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Where your data is processed
We are based in the United States and process and store information on servers located in the United States. If you use the Service from outside the U.S., you understand that your information is transferred to and processed in the U.S., where privacy laws may differ from those in your country.
13. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy as the Service and the law evolve. If we make material changes, we will notify you (by email or a prominent notice in the product) before the changes take effect, and we will update the “Last updated” date above. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised Policy.
